Fitness Testing

 

Prior to starting any fitness program, we perform a comprehensive fitness evaluation on all potential clients. It begins with an information gathering process to learn about the client’s short and long term goals, health history and current medications, past and present exercise history and diet. Clients will also complete Health history form, physical activity form, screening form and informed consent.

fitness testingPart two of this evaluation includes an initial weigh-in and body composition assessment using a Skyndex skinfold caliper at three sites.  Body composition is a measurement of percentage of body fat, a far more important factor than actual body weight. After body composition, girth measurements are taken at seven sites. Initial body weight, body composition and girth measurements are all important in establishing a base from which to progress. Also included in this segment is a postural evaluation to screen for potential structural problems.

From here, we perform a sit and reach flexibility test to assess lower back and hamstring flexibility. This is followed by three minute step test for heart rate recovery and cardiovascular capacity. Finally, we perform a four exercise strength test to evaluate muscular strength and exercise form.
